Vera’s Variety 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

A very interesting design. I usually concentrate on square quilt designs, partly because we have a Queen size bed, and a queen size can be made a bit bigger for a king size bed. I am guessing that today’s designs would be suitable for a King single.

I think that with so many tiny pieces to applique it would make sense to embroider the blocks … is there a machine which will embroider 12 inch blocks?

Butterfly Floral 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Pretty dainty!

I wonder how many petals I would have to cut out to make either of these? Printing on fabric would be an option, or better still, machine embroidery.

Tina’s Trumpet Flower 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

When I started playing with these trumpet flower designs I had never seen a real flower, but a friend has given me some cuttings after I saw them in her garden, so maybe next year I will have the real thing to admire. I will probably redraw the designs too with a real live model as reference.

In the meantime, when I am not tending the garden variety, I must add some quilting motifs to the block collection, and maybe change the leaf shape to something similar tot he real thing.

Di’s Dream Time 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Two designs today, very similar, but the modifications have made some interesting changes to the appearance of the centre blocks.

I cannot pick a favourite … can you?

Aussie Banksia Carol 3, 4 from Virtual Quilter

I like the first design for today, complete with quilting motifs with two thread colours. Changing thread colours id easy when hand quilting, not so much when machining.

The second design is my favourite!

Sindy’s Starflower 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

Within a couple of years of starting to make quilts I was hooked on floral cross designs. I tipped them on point, stretched the on point version to fill the block, mixed up the sizes of the flowers, designed border blocks, and mixed them up in quilt designs. As soon as I started designing quilts with them I tried many different ways of mixing them up to make more complex blocks, with some collection reaching a century score.
